I grew up in Los Angeles, without a real winter or any snow. So, it’s easy for me to be as excited as my own kids when I see those first flakes fall. But, why do I always make a point to photograph my family during a fresh snowfall (aside from being a Rockland County photographer)? Because I want to teach my kids that fun isn’t only found in a store, or on the TV, or at (gasp) Disney.
Fun, can be found on the hill at the park at 3:00 in the afternoon on a Monday…with snowflakes falling and mom and dad playing with them.
Fun can be found in the backyard wrapped up in a furry blanket while catching snowflakes on our eyelashes.
Fun can be found exploring the lakes when they’re frozen over.
Fun can be found catching a snowball with our faces.
I want to teach them that just because we get older, doesn’t mean we have to stop finding the fun in the everyday…in the snow. So, why take pictures in the snow? Because it’s simple. It’s beautiful. Because I believe, it teaches our kids that time spent with them is precious and something we always want to remember.
