Personal Branding Tips for Fall (or any season)

So long hazy summer days; hello golden light of fall! Unless you’re a photographer or in retail, early fall is often a slower time that allows for some retooling and behind the scenes work. It’s a chance for small businesses to update their branding and think about ways to connect authentically with their audience. So, as the season has started to change, I began to think about easy-to-implement personal branding tips to help keep us relevant and front-of-mind.

Top 3 Personal Branding Tips for Fall

1. Embrace the coziness

Pumpkin spice anyone? I’m actually not really a fan, but I am a fan of the warmth of the season (even if the temperature is dropping). To quote my teenage daughter, “it’s a vibe.” So, embrace it and take the time to shift your focus to relationship building and local networking. Those relationships are the ones that help us reach beyond our existing audience. Yeah, social media is great (and a necessary evil). But, it’s the connections I’ve built with clients and other local small businesses that have really helped to build my studio and get my name out there. So, embrace the slower pace of Autumn and take a few minutes to connect with others. You might be surprised just how important and effective this can be!

2. Update your brand images to reflect the changing seasons

If there’s one thing I think we can all agree on, it’s that the fall season is known for its kaleidoscope of warm colors. So, embrace it! Use that palette to add layers of interest to your imagery. You don’t need to wait for those fall foliage colors to pop; simply use that warmth in your own wardrobe or props. Of all the personal branding tips here, this might be the most important, as it helps to keep your content relevant and your audience engaged. Keep your visuals current!

3. Reintroduce yourself on your social media

I am 100% guilty of avoiding this, as are most people. So, I guess this is the part where I say I need to follow my own advice. But, as with any small business, that personal touch is important. It’s important for our audiences to know who we are, and what we’re about. This is even more essential in service-related industries. So, use a headshot that showcases your personality. If you’re a laidback person who loves the comfort of home or the cozy feel of Autumn, let that shine through. The magic is in the individuality.
