I love photographing families with small children. It gives me license to be goofy and silly and to play. It’s happened often that parents will remark how they’re worn out after our time together. Not because it’s work, but because we move. We explore. We dance. We play. We just have fun. This particular session was no exception.
Matthew is gorgeous! I mean, look at those eyes! He’s going to have to beat the girls off with a stick when he’s older 😉 But, he’s not just adorable on the outside. He’s an equally beautiful little boy on the inside.
When Matthew’s mom first called me to schedule their family session, she mentioned that her little guy was a quiet and cuddly boy who had a tendency to be rather shy around new people.
Even so, he was up for adventure. And, his mom and dad were equally ready to just enjoy spending time with him.
I think the thing I always keep at the front of my brain for any session, is that it should be fun. It should be an experience. It should be a time for families to unplug and just be with one another. Between work and school and other life obligations, opportunities for that are so few and far between now.
So, when I meet a family for the first time, my priority (as it was this day) is to help them remember that the most important things are right there. To enjoy a beautiful afternoon or morning with the people who are most important…to just be.
We played. We climbed trees. We tight-rope walked on walls. We found deer. We went for a “hike” down the hill. We played and just enjoyed the day. And, Mr. Matthew was the star of the show…from beginning to end, he was just a doll. An adorable doll!
