Sometimes, when a family has the rambunctious energy of a toddler and preschooler in the house, what’s called for is the tranquil and pastoral beauty of one of my favorite shooting locations. When Jenny called me to schedule her family’s session, she was unsure of where she wanted the annual photos taken. I gave a few options, including their own gorgeous home, but she wanted something a little different…and little more peaceful…a beautiful backdrop to the energy of their young family.
I love the contrast of Luke & Lily’s adventurous spirits (these two were up for anything) and the serenity of the gardens.
Even though it might seem strange to take a family of four, with young children, to a manicured garden preserve…it actually works perfectly!
The clean lines and beautiful light put the emphasis on the kids & their parents…on their interaction with each other…and on their own personalities.
Lily smothered Luke a little bit, as any big sister worth her salt does…
And, Luke had his mom and dad wrapped firmly around his little fingers.
Oftentimes, the parents are the ones who need the most coaxing to partake in the fun…but, Mark and Jenny were game for anything I suggested. Whether that was a loud game of Red Light Green Light, smack dab in the middle of a public field or skipping past a little hobbit house….I loved that they threw their adult senses of embarrassment or shyness out the window for the sake of spending time with their small people. It truly could not have been better!
