Jenna and Dave are basically my neighbors. Seriously, Nyack is the coolest place and living here, you meet some really awesome people. With REALLY cute babies 🙂 Griffin is a champion sleeper! He could really teach my 6.5 year old insomniac a few things about the importance of catching a few zzzz’s. And, he’s a big adorable guy!
When I photograph newborns, I love using the backdrop of the family’s home. Don’t get me wrong, traditionally posed newborn portraiture is beautiful and wonderful, it’s just not for me. As a mom, I’m most attached to those more candid images that capture my kids as they are at that specific slice of time. So, for me? More natural photographs of newborns and their families in their homes, lends a sort of intimacy and storytelling that we would not be able to capture with posed portraits.
I loved the easiness that rolled off of Jenna and Dave and how their new little guy fit right into that. It’s easy to get stressed with the exhaustion and huge life changes that come along with new babies. But, these two just rolled with it.
And, Griffin was a champ! I couldn’t have asked for a happier little dude 🙂
So, I guess my PSA in all of this is that even though life is sometimes messy…and our houses might not be ready to grace the cover of Home & Garden, embrace where you are in your journey. Capture those first few moments together, in the home you first brought your babies to, so that you can all look back on that time and remember together. You can remember the books you read and the stuffed animals in the nursery or the way you rocked that beautiful baby in the glider. In-home newborn sessions have become my absolute favorite kind of sessions for all of these reasons, and so many more. It goes by in a blink.
