I’ve been woefully remiss in my blog posts, so be prepared for a series of catch-ups here, gang! Towards the end of July, I had the enormous pleasure of taking part in a very special 60th birthday surprise. Family members had traveled from near and far to celebrate Laura’s special day. Of course, I was on the scene early, and was regaled with stories about her kindness, and gentleness, and her humor. As a Rockland County family photographer, this is the part of the job that I enjoy most…getting to know the people I’m photographing. The love Laura’s family has for her was so obvious and, honestly, her genuine look of surprise when she walked thru the door just couldn’t be beat. Families aren’t just about small children, though they certainly do liven things up! Nothing like a little childhood honesty about grey hairs or not liking the lasagna to add some spice to the mix. But, when the kids grow up and out of the home, starting families of their own….it’s the mark of a job well done when they all want to come back to celebrate the one person who was their very first cheerleader, teacher, doctor, friend. And, it’s really wonderful, as a photographer, to capture those once-child centered families all grown up.
