Summer is a big deal in our house. Well, I guess it is in most houses really. But, seriously, we pack as much fun as we can into those few months as we humanly can. And, this year was no different.
However, I did start a project the Saturday before Memorial Day documenting the 101 Days of Summer. (Fairly certain there’s a movie about that somewhere, but I digress).
I think the thing I loved most about this particular project (other than the finite time of it) was that I got to pay attention to all the little things. Summer is as much about the dirty feet and sweaty hair and staying up late as it is about the family vacations or trips to the ball park or going to the beach.
It’s the little day-to-day stuff that I love most that is really summer to me. And, there’s always one particular thing that seems to perfectly encapsulate each summer for me. Last year, it was all the time we spent playing with friends. The summer before, it was learning to swim. This summer? It was the kids’ first time in the deep end…without floaties. It’s a little thing…but, it’s also BIG.
So, as we reflect on another season come and gone, and look forward to the crispness of fall, I offer you 101 days of Summer…may they bring you warm and happy thoughts until we’re ready for it again next year!
