When I was little, I used to imagine that the shark from Jaws swam in the deep end of my grandmother’s swimming pool…especially once the afternoon sun began to set and it was cast into the shade. Jaws was never there, but my fear certainly remained. This series began in 2014 when my own children first started to leave the confines of shallow water. They haven’t ever feared sharks. But, they have feared sinking. As parents, we walk that fine line between holding on tight and letting go. We give them just enough support to stay afloat whilst they learn to swim on their own. We give them the security of our presence, and the knowledge that they are strong. And, they are capable. It’s never easy, and almost always hard. But, so worth it.
