Some of you might not know this, but in my life away from my camera, I am also a teacher. With the weight of the world completely upended in recent months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our country’s children are isolated at home without enough food. These kids rely on school breakfasts and lunch to give them the energy they need to be strong, creative, and curious people. Although our schools are doing everything they can to get meals to kids and their families, sometimes (in spite of our best efforts) this doesn’t happen.
This is where organizations like the Nyack Center shine. While there are many non-profits working to fill the gap nationally in response to this pandemic…locally, the Nyack Center continues to step up in an enormous way.
For 30 years, its mission has been to support children, youth, and families with cultural, educational, and enrichment opportunities. Prior to the closure of our schools, the Nyack Center embraced its role as a safe place for our county’s kids to gather both before and after school. Through these programs, children received healthy meals and snacks, academic support, and participated in creative programming.
It truly is the backbone of our community. And, even though kids are stuck at home…the Nyack Center is still working to make sure that every one of the children and families it serves continues to receive the support they need through food distribution. Over 500 families each week!
To aid in their tireless efforts, I’m making available a limited run of three select fine art prints for purchase.
