“Little things make big things happen.”
– John Wooden
Those little kids, as much as we might not want to admit, soon grow into big people…with interesting ideas, creative thoughts, and independent spirits. I think it’s every parent’s fear that when our kids start to grow up, they will also grow away from us.
This family offered such a beautiful contradiction to that.
While Nicole and Dennis are steadily marching into those in-between years, they still have such an obvious enjoyment about spending time with their family. Many people think teenagers are difficult, but really…they just want to be heard. They want their opinions to count.
It’s quite plain that their parents trust and value who they are each becoming, not just who they’ve already been.
And, what was even more wonderful is the way they each embraced playing again together. It’s really easy, as we grow older (and as our kids grow older) to forget the joy that play can bring. These four were up for anything that I threw at them, including an impromptu exploration in a forest creek…it’s so much fun when we are able to simply open up and enjoy the experience.
So…Gene, Tatyana, Nicole, & Dennis…it was truly a pleasure spending the evening with you four. Your family exudes such a quiet contentment and obvious enjoyment with each other. Thanks for sharing that with me!
