Daddy’s Girl – Westchester NY Photographer

Okay, I normally find myself gravitating towards the toddler/preschool age group. It’s such a period of change in childhood…so many firsts, so much personality, testing the waters of independence.

But this little lady had me from the time she crawled into my studio. She is, in a word, smoochy.

What I love most about families just starting out with the first child is the absolute sense of wonder and connectedness that follows them around. I mean, even big strong dads like Greg are wrapped tightly around those tiny little fingers.

And, then there’s mom…just absorbing how her tiny human and her spouse have quietly taken up all those tiny spaces in her heart. It really is awesome.

New moms and dads make me just a little nostalgic. And, are a really great reminder of why I do what I do. Finding the fun and happiness of families is what it’s all about!

Mom & Me Camera Workshop – Westchester NY Family Photographer

2016-07-31_0005

I hear from moms and dads and kids a lot (a lot) that they have great cameras, but don’t really know how to use them. So, if you & your son or daughter find yourselves in this group (and let’s be honest, plenty of us do), I invite you to join me for a fun & casual workshop wherein I will teach you how to get off “Auto”.

It’s more than just a moms & cameras, or dads & cameras workshop. I want you to bring your kids with you. This is something over which you can find common ground, a shared interest…let them put you in the hot seat in front of the camera for a change…take some time to enjoy some time together…having fun and learning something new!

Kids grow up too fast and we, as parents, of course want to memorialize that growth. But, they should also be given the freedom and creative outlet to capture their lives as they see them.

This two-hour workshop will teach you how to really make the most of your camera and give you the confidence to get off Auto and start taking more creative control of your photographs. Groups are limited to 8 participants to ensure plenty of personalized instruction.

Summer will be over before you know it and a whole new school year, with new adventures, will be upon us. Both parents & kids can learn how to capture those milestones from their unique points of view.

What This Workshop Will Teach
– Fundamentals of the exposure triangle
– Compositional rules to strengthen your photographs
– Basic gear: the “must haves” and the “I’d really like to haves”
– Easily applicable ways to work with light, identifying the focus of an image, and recognizing photographic opportunities
– Learning to photograph stories rather than static images.

What You Will Receive
– Approximately one hour of instruction time, with workshop workbook provided
– Approximately 45 minutes of shooting time to put your new knowledge to into action. You will work with your son or daughter to practice the skills you just learned. You will receive direct individualized feedback from me while shooting.
– 15 to 20 minute Q&A period

What You Need to Bring
– Your camera & user manual (please preview the manual ahead of time to ensure basic operation)
– Your son and/or daughter

As a way to help kickstart the school year on a positive note, with a boost of confidence from newfound skills, this first run of the workshop will be offered at the introductory price of $75 per person. It’s the perfect way to spend one of the last days of summer with your kids, doing something fun and creative! This workshop is limited to 8 participants, so be sure to sign up early!

A Baby Changes Everything – Westchester NY Family Photographer

I have had the privilege of photographing Greyson (and his mom and dad) twice now in his little life. There are so many monumental changes that occur within those first few months, and his parents wanted to document everything.

Especially since their families are so very far away (this tugs at my heart as my own kids don’t have the luxury of having their relatives nearby)…documenting growth and change takes on an even more pivotal role.

But, even with all that distance, there’s no denying how loved this little guy is by so many. Perennially happy and joyful, he was content to be cuddled and loved in the sunshine. It just doesn’t get better.

From his sweet rosy cheeks to his sparkly brown eyes, Mr. G is one of the happiest little guys I’ve had the pleasure to meet in recent years.

I hope that wonder at the world never leaves you, little guy. It’s a big place, to be sure, but so much better with sweet new people like you in it!

Dive In – Rockland County Photographer

Sometimes, there are those images that just check all those lovely little boxes. The ones that catch our attention and keep us thinking about them long after we’re done looking. The ones that make us think, or giggle, or sigh, or smile, or even cry. The images that we remember are the ones that makes us feel something.

This is one of those images for me. It is appropriately titled “Dive In.”

Nyack NY

When I took this, I knew before I even uploaded the file to my computer that it would remain one of my favorites. There’s just something so absolutely happy and carefree…and, yet, it has a hint of trepidation. Too little to go so deep.

It’s icing when an image that I personally love so much is recognized by others. I was gobsmacked to be recognized by the National Association of Professional Child Photographers (NAPCP) for the annual International Image Competition. With over 7,000 entries, competition is incredibly stiff so I am humbled and honored by this recognition of merit.

In honor of summertime, I encourage you to…well…dive in 😉

January Family Fun – Westchester Family Photographer

It’s time for our monthly family fun activities list! January might bring winter weather, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get out and enjoy it! As a Westchester family photographer, I’m always searching for fun things to do with my own kids that might also give me an opportunity to capture some great images. So, if you’re looking for some ways to get your kids out and active this month, look no further. Cameras not required 🙂

January 4: Muscoot Farm in Somers, NY is hosting a Butter & Bread family event from 12-3. Learn how to churn butter and bake bread! Event price is $10. Contact Muscoot at (914) 864-7286 to get on the list. If you’ve never been to Muscoot, it is an absolutely fantastic place to bring the little guys. As a Westchester County Park, there is no admission to the farm itself. Go explore, see the animals, take a walk on one of the many miles of trails, and enjoy being outside.

January 10: The Warner Library in Tarrytown is hosting The Westchester Balloon Company as they transform balloons into famous Dr. Seuss characters. Bring the kids and enjoy the fun! Pre-register in the children’s room.

January 11: The Greenburgh Nature Center invites you to visit for a magical Winter Walk. Take an easy, guided walk to explore the natural flora and fauna, and investigate what animals do to stay warm in in the winter. Cost is $5 for members, $8 for non-members.

January 16-18: The Paramount Theater in Peekskill presents The Wizard of Oz! I’m a Cowardly Lion fan, myself…if your kids have never seen the movie, this live production would be a great way to introduce them to the classic.

And, don’t forget that the annual Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Gardens continues through January 19!

Outdoor ice skating at the Bear Mountain State Park Ice Rink continues through the season. I took my kids last weekend and we had an absolute blast! Ice skating outdoors, in the sunshine just can’t be beat. Annnndddd…the historic Bear Mountain carousel is right across the walkway!

The Knickerbocker Ice Festival is supposed to be returning to Rockland Lake State Park after a two-year hiatus as well…I’ll update the post when dates are released – it really is an absolutely amazing display of artistry!
